The American Farmers & Ranchers LEAD program is sponsoring a one-day training program at the Noble Foundation Learning Center in Ardmore, May 19.

This is a train-the-trainer seminar where attendees will learn how to be advocates for agriculture. This is the main initiative for the LEAD program in 2017. We feel teaching people where their food comes from is vital to the future of Oklahoma agriculture.

Bailey Kliewer, AFR LEAD State Council Chair

Following lunch will be a session on teaching and communicating food production systems.  This session includes instruction and demonstrations on the Noble Foundation’s picnic basket, Noble Trunks, and specialty crops and agriculture.

The Noble Foundation’s picnic basket is a hands-on lesson created to provide learning opportunities about the value of agriculture and its presence in everyday life.

According to the Noble Foundation, the trunk program consists of a shippable container that comes complete with all the resources and materials to lead hands-on activities including the Carbon Cycle in a wheat field. The activities integrate into and support existing science curriculum and are aligned with Oklahoma education standards. The Carbon Cycle lesson introduces students to the importance of carbon to life. The activities are for middle school and high school students.

The AFR LEAD program focuses on leadership, exploration and development. We sponsor events like this to give agricultural leaders a chance to improve their leadership and production skills.
